DESCRIPTION:Lights Up Productions’ community theater group invites performers ages 12 and up to audition for Arthur Miller’s gripping drama\, THE CRUCIBLE\, directed by Hannah Weston. This powerful production will take the stage at the Skowhegan Opera House for two weekends this March (6-8 and 13-15).\n\n~~ In the town of Salem\, Massachusetts in 1692\, rumors of witchcraft caused the town to fall into mass hysteria as the townspeople start to accuse one another. The Salem witch trials begin causing riots and anger. In this dark tale we see how one girl’s lies can wreak havoc on a Puritan town. ~~\n\n Audition Dates & Details:\n• Sunday\, January 11 at 1:00 PM• Monday\, January 12 at 6:00 PM\n\n Location: Skowhegan Opera House\, 225 Water Street\, Skowhegan\, Maine\n\n Sides will be provided — just show up! No preparation needed. Father to Betty.2) Betty Parris [Female Presenting] [Age:12-15] – 10-year-old daughter of Rev. Parris. The first girl to be “afflicted” by “witchcraft”.3) Tituba [Female Presenting] [Age: 25-45] [Must be played by a BIPOC actor] – Slave to Rev. Parris from Barbados. The first accused of witchcraft by Abigail.4) Abigail Williams [Female Presenting] [Age: 18-30] – 17-year-old niece of Rev. Parris. She leads all the girls in accusing others of witchcraft.5) Susanna Walcott [Female Presenting] [Age: 15-30] – 16-year-old friend of Abigail. She is one of the girls who are “afflicted” by “witchcraft”.6) Mrs. Ann Putnam [Female Presenting] [Age: 35-55] – Thomas Putnam’s wife. Mother of 8 children\, with only one surviving child\, Ruth Putnam.7) Thomas Putman [Male Presenting] [Age: 40-60] – Rich husband of Ann Putnam. He uses the witch trial to steal other people’s land. Mercy Lewis [Female Presenting] [Age: 15-30] – Servant to the Putnams\, friend of Abigail\, can’t be trusted.9) Mary Warren [Female Presenting] [Age: 17-30] – The shy and easily influenced servant of the Proctor household. She is part of Abigail’s girl gang until she tries to expose her lies.10) John Proctor [Male Presenting] [Age: 30-45] – A local farmer who lives outside of town with his wife\, Elizabeth. The object of Abigail’s desire. Tries to expose the hysteria for what it really is.11) Rebecca Nurse [Female Presenting] [Age: 50-80] – 72-year-old wife of Francis Nurse. She is accused of witchcraft by the Putman family\, who are jealous of her many children. She is wise and refuses to confess to the accusations. She is a voice of reason.12) Giles Corey [Male Presenting] [Age: 50-80] – An 83-year-old elderly farmer whose wife\, Martha\, is accused of witchcraft. He is a friend of John Proctor. He is pressed to death with large stones.13) Revered John Hale [Male Presenting] [Age: 25-45] – A young minister and expert on witchcraft. He comes from out of town to examine Betty Parris. He is intelligent and late regrets his actions.14) Elizabeth Proctor [Female Presenting] [Age: 25-45] – John Proctor’s wife. Elizabeth is virtuous and can’t forgive John for his affair with Abigail.15) Francis Nurse [Male Presenting] [Age: 50-80] – Wealthy and influential man in Salem. He is the husband of Rebecca Nurse and the enemy of the Putnams.16) Ezekiel Cheever [Male Presenting] [Age: 25-45] – The court clerk during the trials. He turns on his friends as he arrests those accused of witchcraft.17) John Willard [Male Presenting] [Age: 25-50] – The marshal of Salem making the arrests. He comes to see through the hysteria and doesn’t believe the witchcraft allegations.18) Judge Hathorne [Male Presenting] [Age: 40-60] – He presides over the trial. He doesn’t want to hear any explanations from those accused. He firmly believes this is witchcraft. He is known as the “hanging judge” of the era.19) Deputy-Governor Danforth [Male Presenting] [Age: 50-70] – The Deputy Governor of Massachusetts presides as a judge at the witch trials. He is convinced that he is doing the right thing. He’s more interested in keeping order rather than justice.20) Martha Corey [Female Presenting voice from offstage] – Wife of Giles Corey\, accused of witchcraft for reading too much. We only hear her voice from offstage as she testifies at the trials.21) Sarah Good [Female Presenting] [Age: 25-40] – She is an unhoused woman who is one of the first to be accused of witchcraft. She is pregnant during the trial. The whole ordeal leaves her mentally unstable.22) Hopkins [Male Presenting] [Age: 20-80] – The guard at the jail. Non-speaking role.23) Ensemble – Various townspeople witnessing the trial and Abigail’s girl gang.

DESCRIPTION:For nearly two decades\, local musician\, artist\, and playwright Bob Lovelace has filled the Skowhegan Opera House with music\, laughter\, and unforgettable stories. Now he returns for Lights Up Productions’ first Historical Tour of 2026 — and he’s got MORE stories to tell! \nBeyond recording several CDs\, Bob has written\, directed\, and produced three original plays/musicals\, hosted numerous talent shows\, and performed in concerts on the SOH stage. Most recently\, Bob played Ebenezer Scrooge in LUP’s 2024 “A Christmas Carol – A Staged Reading.” \nCome see and hear about Bob’s collection of memories and magical stories that have helped to shape our stage!
